Quinn got the Shrews promoted last season |
Jimmy Quinn has resigned as manager of Shrewsbury Town after a disappointing start to the season. "It was a difficult decision for me to make particularly after the success of last season," said Quinn.
"But I had to put the interests of the club and its supporters first and felt that now was the right time to bring a fresh approach into the club."
Chic Bates has been put in charge for Saturday's game against Southend, with the club propping up League Two.
Chairman Roland Wycherley said: "It is with tremendous regret that we are parting company with Jimmy but unfortunately he was adamant that the time was right for a change.
"Whilst the board were obviously concerned about the current league position we will be forever indebted to Jimmy for gaining us promotion back into the league last season, and wish him every success for the future."
Quinn took charge at Gay Meadow in May 2003 after Kevin Ratcliffe resigned following relegation to the Conference.
He helped Shrewsbury gain promotion at the first attempt when they finished third last season.
But they have won just two of their 14 league games this season and find themselves propping up the Football League.
