Nottingham Forest have completed their first signing of a frustrating summer by bringing in Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand on a six-month loan deal.

The 21-year-old has yet to play for the reigning Premier League champions but spent last season on loan with Reading.

"When I got the signal I could go on loan I was really happy to come here," Bertrand told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"This will be my third season in this division and hopefully I can use that to my advantage."

As well as a full season with the Royals where he made 51 appearances, Bertrand has also gained League experience during loan spells with Bournemouth, Oldham and Norwich.

Bertrand, who began his career as a winger, joined Chelsea from Gillingham for an initial fee of £125,000 in 2005.

He has also recently been included in Stuart Pearce's England Under-21 side, having previously established himself as a regular for the Under-19s.
