Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies says he only found out about the sale of James Perch after the deal was done.

The versatile defender joined Premier League side Newcastle this week for an undisclosed fee but Davies says he was not informed of the sale until late on.

Davies told BBC East Midlands Today: "I got a call after the deal was done to tell me James was leaving.

"I was disappointed but that is why the acquisitions panel is here. They decide who comes, who goes and when."

Meanwhile Forest have suffered a double injury setback to strikers David McGoldrick and Dele Adebola

McGoldrick has been ruled out for three months with a dislocated shoulder while fellow forward Adebola faces a month on the sidelines because a hernia repair he had several years ago has become infected.

Both players have undergone successful operations.
