Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal with Aston Villa to extend the loan spell of defender Nicky Shorey until the end of January.

The 28-year-old has played seven times for the Reds, helping them to clean sheets in their last five matches.

Forest manager Billy Davies told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I am delighted to get Nicky until the end of January."

Shorey is unavailable to play in Saturday's FA Cup third round tie against Birmingham at The City Ground.

The deal includes a clause allowing Villa to recall him at 24-hours notice.

Meanwhile, Davies revealed the club are yet to make a move for new players in preparation for the reopening of the transfer window on New Year's Day.

"I will sit down with the acquisitions committee a number of times between now and the end of January," he added.

"We have identified possibilities but we haven't made any official moves for anybody. All we are doing is gathering information but we know what we would like to bring in.
