Lynch was signed by former manager Colin Calderwood
Nottingham Forest have signed left-back Joel Lynch from Brighton for £200,000, with midfielder Matt Thornhill going the other way on loan.
Lynch, 21, has signed a three-year contract at the City Ground.
Thornhill, 20, has played 44 times for Forest and his loan spell at the Withdean will last six months.
Forest will field first teams against Rushden & Diamonds and Rotherham on Wednesday night and Lynch will play in one of the matches.
Lynch made 23 appearances for Forest last season while on loan at the City Ground.
Meanwhile, Brighton trialist Paul Ifil has left the Withdean, while former MK Dons player Alan Navarro and former England striker Michael Ricketts remain training with the club.
