Cole is second in the Premier League's all-time scorers charts

Nottingham Forest manager Colin Calderwood says he is hopeful that striker Andrew Cole will be fit for the first match of the season.

Cole, who is recovering from a calf injury, missed a friendly against Notts County on Saturday.

Calderwood told BBC Radio Nottingham: "We are looking to do a bit of physical work with Andrew.

"We'll have a few days to freshen injured players up, bring them back in and prepare ourselves for Reading."

Calderwood added: "The injury situation is what it is. We'll get to the end of the week and hopefully have an improvement in one or two players," Calderwood said.

Injuries forced Joe Garner, Paul Anderson, Nathan Tyson and Lewis McGugan to miss Forest's 3-2 pre-season victory over Notts County at Meadow Lane on Saturday.
