Coventry City have rejected a third Nottingham Forest approach for wantaway striker Leon Best.

Forest have already had two bids rejected, with the second offer believed to be 1million.

Coventry boss Iain Dowie said: "They have made a rejigged bid rather than a new bid. There is something on the table but it's not quite what we want."

Nottingham-born Best, 21, handed in a transfer request following the news of interest from the City Ground club.

Dowie said he would prefer to keep the player at the Ricoh Arena, but has not closed the door on the possibility of Best leaving the club before the transfer deadline.

He was brought here for the future so of course we don't want to let him go

"Leon has had his head turned but he won't be moving anywhere unless someone meets our valuation of him and we can get similar or better cover in," said Dowie.

"He was brought here for the future so of course we don't want to let him go, but I understand the lure when your home-town club comes in for you."

Best rejected a move to the City Ground when he left Southampton for 650,000 in the summer.
