Norwich City boss Paul Lambert wary of loans

Norwich City boss Paul Lambert says he will not rely heavily on the loan market during his summer recruitment.

The Canaries secured numerous short-term signings while Glenn Roeder was boss between 2007 and 2009, a system Lambert believes cost the club dearly.

He told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I don't want to go down that road two years ago when people go back to their parent club and couldn't care two hoots.

"The lads I bring in will hopefully give me everything they've got."

Roeder was sacked in January last year and the club went on to be relegated from the Championship, but Lambert's men have made an instant return to football's second flight.

"It would be easy to go and get loan after loan, players who want big money but don't want to put their shoulder to the wheel," Lambert continued.

I still have the nucleus of the players who did so well for me and they'll be a major part of what's going to happen next year

"You might see one or so throughout the season coming in but ultimately I want my own group of players."

Lambert has already brought in midfielder Andrew Crofts for an undisclosed fee from Brighton and defender Elliott Ward on a free transfer.

The City manager is likely to continue his recruitment drive, but insists he will stand by the players who won the League One title this season.

"You've got to remember that I still have the nucleus of the players who did so well for me," he said.

"And they'll be a major part of what's going to happen next year."

Meanwhile Norwich's plans to increase the capacity of Carrow Road to 27,000 have begun with confirmation that 160 seats will be made available in the upper tier of the Norwich and Peterborough stand.
