Norwich boss Bryan Gunn said he was delighted with new signings Grant Holt and Simon Whaley after the Canaries' 1-0 friendly win at Crystal Palace.
Whaley scored the goal with an assist from Holt, and Gunn told BBC Radio Norfolk that Whaley impressed him.
"He showed in flashes tonight that he'll be an important player for us in the season," he said.
"He's got pace to burn and when he gets inside the box it's good to see there's only one thing on his mind."
Holt, who signed from Shrewsbury in a deal thought to be worth up to £500,000, also impressed his new manager with a physical and skilful display up front.
"Lots of nice touches, lots of skill, and obviously he helped to make the goal with a strong run into the corner and a very skilful nutmeg and cut-back to Simon.
"That's the kind of player we've got in Grant, and we've got to utilise," he said.
"We need to make sure we get the ball into the right areas where we'll get his contributions on more occasions than we saw tonight."
