Marshall made his 100th appearance for Norwich against the Owls
Norwich goalkeeper David Marshall has admitted he is a reluctant beneficiary of Allan McGregor's expulsion from the Scotland national team.
The Rangers player was banned by George Burley and the Scottish Football Association this week, leaving Marshall as Craig Gordon's understudy.
He told BBC Radio Norfolk: "It's not the way I'd want it to happen.
"But there's nothing I can do about that, I'll just have to keep playing and see what happens."
McGregor and his Ibrox team-mate Barry Ferguson were pictured this week making obscene gestures to television cameras while sitting on the Scotland bench during the World Cup qualifier against Iceland.
It followed them being dropped from the team after being involved in a drinking session after last weekend's defeat by the Netherlands.
Both players have been suspended by their club and banned from representing their country ever again, and Marshall admitted he was glad he stayed out of the row.
"It's just been a strange week, I've not had much to do with it obviously sitting as third choice," he said.
"I've just kept my head down and it's all kicked off up there, so I'm glad I'm down in Norfolk now."
Marshall returned to club duty at Carrow Road on Saturday, but his team were beaten 1-0 by Sheffield Wednesday.
With the team a point and a place above the relegation zone, he admitted the season will go to the wire.
"I can't see us staying up before the last day but we're still outside the bottom three with five games to go to stay there, we've just got to look to do that," he said.
