Norwich City manager Glenn Roeder has accused Coventry of trying to unsettle winger David Bell.
Media reports earlier in the week suggested the Canaries had offered Bell as part of swap deal for Sky Blues defender Elliott Ward.
But Roeder has angrily denied the rumours and told BBC Radio Norfolk he believes Coventry were responsible.
"That sort of speculation, and it came from Coventry, can be a little bit annoying," said Roeder.
Bell only joined Norwich from Luton Town in the summer and has become a first-team regular on the left wing.
The Canaries have lost two central defenders - Dejan Stefanovic and John Kennedy - to injury and reports had suggested they wanted to sign Ward from Coventry, with Bell going the other way.
And although Roeder is aware the rumour mill is a fact of life for managers as the re-opening of the transfer window nears, he insists Bell is going nowhere.
"All sorts of speculation is going to be slipped into the media, whether it's the players themselves, the players' agents or whether it's the club who are trying to unsettle a particular player, which is very annoying," he said.
"We've had a case of that ourselves this week with David Bell and Coventry. I will repeat: David Bell has only just started his Norwich career and I think he'll have a long and very successful career at Norwich."
Bell, who began his career with Rushden and Diamonds, has started the Canaries' last nine matches after missing the start of the season through injury.
