Roeder a fan of 'tough' Kennedy

Norwich manager Glenn Roeder has said Jon Kennedy is the best defender he has worked with in his managerial career.

The 25-year-old Celtic centre-half is on loan at Carrow Road until January and Roeder told BBC Radio Norfolk it has been a pleasure to work with him.

"He's very tough and uncompromising, and a good footballer, looking to pass the ball out from defence," he said.

"You watch him and sometimes think tackling's become a lost art, these tackles are absolutely fantastic."

Kennedy teamed up with Roeder in a bid to regain first team fitness after a nightmare few years, he suffered a horrific knee injury on his international debut in 2004 and spent three years out of the game.

And Roeder said it is an experience other players would have struggled to cope with.

"He's a great human being, if you were to see the scars on his legs from the knee injury he had, it's like something out of a horror movie to look at.

"I think it's only [being] someone of his substance and mentality that's allowed him to get back to playing football," he said.

Kennedy was one of the Canaries stand-out players this season before suffering a knock to his ankle against QPR in September.

He returned to the team and played 90 minutes in the weekend defeat to Bristol City but may have aggravated his latest injury according to Roeder.

"I feel so disappointed for him that on Saturday a bad tackle from [Dele] Adebola, not even a necessary tackle, has hurt his ankle again and it might cost him his place against Wolves," he said.
