Darren Huckerby has waved farewell to Carrow Road by being voted one of Norwich City's greatest ever players.

The 32-year-old was back at The Canaries' home ground nearly two weeks after he was released by the club.

A special tribute was organised for Huckerby at an event to mark the naming of the club's best team of all time.

Huckerby told BBC Radio Norfolk: "It was a great send off and I couldn't have asked to finish my career here any better really."

About 3,500 people turned up at Carrow Road for the event, which marked the return of some big names from the club's past.

It also featured live music from Jamelia and X-Factor finalists Rhydian Roberts, Ben Mills and Ray Quinn.

'Best ever achievement'

Huckerby's release has sparked anger among some sections of the Canaries support but the player himself insisted the time had come for everyone to move on.

"Now it's time to get behind the manager and hopefully the board will back him and he can go and buy the 12, 13 or 14 players he needs," said Huckerby.

1966 World Cup winner Martin Peters was voted into the greatest ever Norwich 11 along with Iwan Roberts, Chris Sutton and Kevin Keelan, who was Norwich's goalkeeper for 17 years.

Keelan, who now lives in Florida, returned to Norfolk to pick up his accolade.

"It's probably the achievement of my life," said Keelan.

"It's a great trophy and without these fans it wouldn't have been possible," he added.
