Gilks earned many admirers during his time at Rochdale |
Norwich have agreed to sign Rochdale goalkeeper Matthew Gilks. The 25-year-old, who is out of contract at Spotland, will move on a free transfer and sign a two-year deal with the Canaries on 1 July.
However, boss Peter Grant insists that Gilks' arrival will not mean the end of his pursuit of Celtic's David Marshall.
"I'm not just looking at David - and getting Matty proves that. He wants to come and fight for the position of keeper," Grant told Norwich's website.
"Matt puts me in mind of Jimmy Walker who used to play at Walsall, and was very highly regarded.
"He has played two full seasons, has not missed a game and has been terrific."
Dale boss Keith Hill added: "He's an outstanding keeper, it's just a shame we couldn't retain his services.
"I wouldn't be surprised if he's a Premiership goalkeeper in the next few seasons."
