David Marshall played five times for Norwich on loan |
Celtic have rejected an approach from Norwich City for the permanent transfer of David Marshall, according to the goalkeeper's agent, Willie McKay. "He has a year of his contract still to run and Celtic are ready to offer him a new deal," McKay told BBC Sport.
Marshall recently tabled a transfer request after spending the second half of the season on loan with Norwich.
And the Championship outfit are thought to have been willing to pay up to 500,000 for the 22-year-old.
That kind of fee could scare off Hibernian should speculation linking the Edinburgh club to Marshall be correct.
Hibs boss John Collins is seeking to solve his goalkeeping problems after Andrew McNeil, Zbigniew Malkowski and Simon Brown failed to impress during the season.
Celtic paid 100,000 to Inverness Caledonian Thistle for Mark Brown in January as cover for Artur Boruc at the same time as they farmed out Marshall.
The Scot was, at the time, assured of his long-term future at Celtic Park, with manager Gordon Strachan saying he wanted him to gain more first-team experience.
Marshall played five times for Norwich before an ankle injury cut short his season in February.
But manager Peter Grant was suitably impressed with the player on loan from his former club to make an offer.
And Marshall is keen to continue his career in England as he attempts to win back his place in the Scotland squad.
