Green has his eye on a September return for the Canaries

The goalkeeper, 26, ruptured his groin in England B's defeat to Belarus on the eve of the World Cup finals.

"I'm working hard in the gym and slowly getting out onto the training pitch, doing some running and various exercises," Green said.

"It's good to be back out there doing stuff. I've had injuries in my career which involved breaking bones, but this was a lot worse pain wise."

The injury ruled Green out of England's World Cup campaign but he is raring to get back into action with the Canaries in the Championship.

"If you're looking for exciting football then it's the place to be," added Green, who was speaking at the Carrow Road launch of the Barclays 'Spaces for Sport' scheme.

"It's a complete opposite to the Premiership, where it's one of three teams to win it. In the Championship it's one of eight or nine.

"It's going to be a wide open season and I imagine there'll be a lot of teams up at the top beating each other.

"Obviously Birmingham, with the signings they've made and the money they've invested since going down are going to be strong favourites.

"You look at the teams that come back down, like ourselves last season and Southampton, but it doesn't always go to form.

"Last season confirmed how tough it was. While we finished a couple of places off the play-offs we were in fact a long way off.

"If you're not at it 100% for every game it highlights how difficult it can be."
