Green endured a miserable time at the Majeski Stadium |
Norwich keeper Robert Green is expected to miss the start of next season with the serious groin injury which ended his World Cup hopes. Green will have investigative surgery on Saturday to determine the extent of the injury he sustained during the England B game against Belarus.
"He's had scans which showed quite a lot of damage in the groin area," said Norwich physio Neal Reynolds.
"He will almost definitely not be fit for the start of the season."
The 26-year-old came on at half-time against Belarus, but within minutes he collapsed taking a goal-kick.
It is the second time Green, who was replaced in England's squad by Scott Carson, has been forced out of a major international tournament after he missed out on Euro 2004 because of an ankle operation.
Reynolds added: "Obviously Robert and his family are very disappointed and upset.
"Robert has got a big and important operation on Saturday, after which he has a lot of hard work ahead of him before he can return to action.
"Robert and his family have requested they be left in peace while they deal with this massive blow and hope the media can respect their privacy."
