Norwich boss Nigel Worthington says he is not prepared to pay over the odds for West Brom striker Robert Earnshaw. Worthington is interested in signing Earnshaw as a replacement for Dean Ashton, but is not ready to pay the reported �3m asking price.
"We have made a phone call to West Brom and the price for Earnshaw is too steep for us," said Worthington.
"They would have to drop the price for anything to possibly happen as we can't afford the price they are asking."
Earnshaw cost West Brom �3m from Cardiff 18 months ago and has had two transfer requests rejected in the past month.
Worthington added: "Earnshaw is a player we like a lot. He is quick, he has got an eye for goal and he is a character.
"If something could be done to bring him to Norwich City, it would be great, but what Albion are asking is a step too far for us.
"We do want to get someone in, but at the right price, and that is very important. That is the way the club is run. We will just have to wait and see what happens."
Ashton moved to West Ham for �7.25m last week.
