Guinan says Sampson has restored a "feelgood factor" at the club

Northampton Town striker Steve Guinan says that manager Ian Sampson fully deserves a new contract.

The Cobblers boss, whose contract runs out at the end of the season, has steered his team from relegation candidates to promotion contenders.

"It's no surprise among the players - we're doing really well at the moment, everyone's happy, everyone wants to be playing," Guinan told BBC Northampton.

"If Ian Sampson is going to get his new deal it's fully deserved."

Guinan added: "Ever since he got the job on the caretaker basis and brought in Malcolm Crosby there's been a feelgood factor around the club again.

"I don't think it's a coincidence that we are on a great run of recent form."
