Northampton's Ryan Gilligan believes in team's quality
Gilligan has scored eight goals for the Cobblers this season
Northampton Town midfielder Ryan Gilligan says his side must continue to prove themselves after going five games unbeaten in the league.
The Cobblers' recent good run of form has lifted them to 16th in League Two.
"We've become more consistent, and we've showed our credentials," the 22-year-old told BBC Radio Northampton.
"I don't think relegation has ever been in our minds. We firmly believe we have one of the best squads in the league. Now we must to prove it to everyone."
Gilligan also paid tribute to the club's strikers, including top scorer Adebayo Akinfenwa.
"As a midfielder I love playing with him. He's so strong and reliable with the ball in possession," he said.
"Adebayo did a brilliant job for us [against Bournemouth], as he's done for the last seven or eight weeks."
Northampton were unlikely winners over promotion contenders Bournemouth at the weekend, beating them 2-0 at Dean Court.
Gilligan has scored eight goals this season and is a regular in Ian Sampson's side, making 29 appearances so far.
But he believes there is healthy battle for places within Sampson's large squad.
"With Courtney Herbert, Billy McKay, Gary Mulligan and Steve Guinan, there's good competition for places," he added.
