Northampton Town captain Craig Hinton says missed chances proved costly in the Cobblers' 3-0 defeat at Shrewsbury.
It was the side's fifth league defeat in a row and leaves them in the bottom three of League Two.
"It was a strange game," Hinton told BBC Radio Northampton. "The lads were devastated to lose by that score - it didn't really reflect how we played."
But the defender conceded: "We gave away sloppy goals and then we didn't take our own chances."
He added: "Luckily we have a match on Tuesday [against Rotherham] and that gives us an opportunity to bounce back.
"We just need that little bit of luck and to be more solid as a team."
The 31-year-old also sympathised with caretaker-manager Ian Sampson, who has lost all three of his games in charge since replacing Stuart Gray.
"Of course it's going to hurt him - just as it hurts each individual player," he said.
