MK Dons' Jemal Johnson fired in a hat-trick as Northampton Town's final pre-season friendly ended in a 3-1 defeat at Stadium MK on Saturday.
Johnson netted twice in the first half and added a third just before the end, while new striker Billy McKay scored for Northampton after 27 minutes.
Queens Park Rangers winger Romone Rose played most of the match after being named among the Cobblers' substitutes.
Northampton begin their League Two campaign against Macclesfield Town.
