Cobblers needs council's support

Cardoza is still in talks with several first-team players

Northampton Town chairman David Cardoza has said it is make or break for the Cobblers ahead of stadium plans with council talks next week.

The club had plans to develop the retails facilities at Sixfields earlier this year halted by the council.

Cardoza told BBC Radio Northampton: "We have a cabinet council meeting on the fifth which is enormous for our future.

"It is time for people to show whether they are behind this football club or not," he added.

Cardoza also gave his take on the controversial Giles Coke situation, who went to Motherwell after agreeing to stay at Sixfields and said the club were well in control of the situation.

This could run and run because I am not going to roll over and let a player leave for nothing under these circumstances

Northampton Town chairman David Cardoza on the Giles Coke saga

"I'd agreed the deal with the agent and had it in hard copy that Giles was signing.

"The morning that he was going to sign I got a call saying he wasn't going to sign and we spoke to the league from that moment," he said.

"This could run and run because I am not going to roll over and let a player leave for nothing under these circumstances."

He also went on to say that he was "fighting extremely hard" to keep as many of their first-team players as possible to strengthen their chance of regaining their League One status next season.
