Cobblers coaches agree new deals

Northampton Town

Northampton Town's assistant coaches Jim Barron and Ian Sampson have agreed new deals with the club.

The move means the duo, like manager Stuart Gray, will be under contract at Sixfields for the next two years.

Cobblers' chairman David Cardoza said: "I am delighted that Jim and Sammo have agreed new two-year deals.

"Jim has a huge amount of experience in coaching. He is talked about as being our goalkeeping coach but he is also a highly experienced all round coach."

One of Barron's main jobs has been coaching goalkeeper Mark Bunn who recently trained with Manchester City.

"The work Jim has done with Mark Bunn is clear for everybody to see. I have a lot of time for Jim. He tells you how it is and that's a quality I admire in a person," Cardoza added.

He also admitted Northampton had been keen to keep Ian Sampson who has been with the club for 14 years as a player and coach.

"Sammo is learning all the time and he could not be in a better position to continue his development working alongside Stuart," said Cardoza.

"He has been part of this club for a long time and clearly loves being here, he is well liked and gives a positive approach to everything.

"I have no doubt that one day Sammo will make an excellent manager," he added.
