Newcastle winger Wayne Routledge remains positive

Routledge has made four Newcastle appearances this season

Newcastle winger Wayne Routledge believes the defeat at Derby County should not derail their promotion bid ahead of Saturday's trip to Swansea.

Wednesday's 3-0 loss in the East Midlands was the Magpies' first in the league since October but Routledge is confident of a return to winning ways.

"We've been 15 games unbeaten," he told BBC Newcastle.

"We just need to go on another run now and hopefully continue that until the end of the season."

The trip to Swansea's Liberty Stadium reunites the ex-Tottenham wide-man with a former mentor in the shape of Swans boss Paulo Sousa.

Sousa signed Routledge for Queens Park Rangers in January 2009.

And the Sidcup-born forward, who enjoyed a loan spell with Swansea's rivals Cardiff, is an admirer of his former boss's methods.

"Paulo's an absolute football man, everything revolves around football for him," he said

"He was the main reason why I signed for QPR. I hadn't been outside the Premier League for ages and then I sat down and had a talk with him and his football philosophy is unbelievable.

"It's rubbing off on Swansea now and they're getting good results and not conceding many goals, he's doing well there."

Newcastle are currently second in the Championship, level on points with leaders West Bromwich Albion.
