Newcastle United have sealed the permanent signing of Manchester United full-back Danny Simpson.

The 23-year-old, who joined the Magpies on loan in August, has signed a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Simpson, who played the last game of his loan spell in Monday's 2-2 draw with West Brom, has made 22 appearances for the Magpies this season.

"He was a player we wanted to keep at the club and he was keen to stay," said Newcastle boss Chris Hughton.

"He has played a key role during the first half of the season. He is a popular lad in the dressing room and he took no time at all to settle in."

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest have rejected Newcastle's bid for James Perch as "derisory".
