Newcastle United deny Geremi has joined Ankaragucu
Geremi is in the Cameroon squad for the Africa Cup of Nations
Newcastle have denied that midfielder Geremi has left the club, despite Ankaragucu claiming to have signed him.
A Newcastle United statement said: "Any talk of him leaving St James' Park at this moment is extremely premature.
"Geremi remains a Newcastle United player and has linked up with Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations."
The 31-year-old was presented to fans of Turkish side Ankaragucu this week, while their official website announced Geremi had signed an 18-month deal.
Since joining United in July 2007, the Cameroon international has made 54 appearances, scoring three goals.
His last appearance for Newcastle came against Scunthorpe in October.
Geremi's career in Europe began with Turkish side Genclerbirligi after spells in his home country and in South America, before a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
At the Bernabeu he was a two-time Champions League winner, while also receiving a nomination for the Ballon D'Or in 2000.
Middlesbrough brought the player to England on a season-long loan and he impressed at the Riverside, helping to stabilise the Teessiders' place in the Premier League.
Form there prompted Chelsea to take him to Stamford Bridge but he made only 48 starts in four seasons and eventually joined the Magpies on a free transfer, where again his appearances have been limited due to injury and poor form.
He remains a regular for Cameroon, amassing more than 100 caps and is a member of Paul Le Guen's squad for this month's Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.
