Carroll made his Newcastle debut in the Uefa Cup back in 2006
Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll believes an early introduction to first-team life has been the catalyst for his development at St James' Park.
Carroll, 20, made his full debut for Newcastle in the Uefa Cup in 2006 but scored on first start for the club against West Ham last term.
"Being around the first-team was an amazing experience for me," Carroll told BBC Newcastle.
"Getting my first start gave me the confidence to go and want more."
The Gateshead-born striker has become a key figure in the Magpies side this season, and under Chris Hughton has become a regular in the striker positions following the departures of Michael Owen and Obafemi Martins during the summer.
And with England under-21 recognition to add to his rising stock, Carroll is keen for a return to the Premier League having tasted the quality of the division last season.
