Roeder was appointed Newcastle's caretaker manager in February

He lacks the coaching qualifications needed to manage a top-flight club but has permission to stay in charge until the end of the season.

Roeder told BBC Radio Five Live: "I am not against the qualifications.

"But I don't see why if the chairman spoke to me about the job I would not be able to take the team next year."

He added: "We will have to wait and see but the Premier League showed common sense in letting me take the team for the last two games.

"And you would hope if it is necessary - and we don't know that yet - they would show common sense again.

"I think it is going to take five or six years for the situation to settle down completely because the pro-licence was brought in only a few years ago.

"Before that, the A-licence, which I am a holder of, was enough to manage at Premiership level."

Earlier this week, Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd denied that Roeder is about to be appointed.

But Roeder expects a decision to be made soon - one way or another.

He said: "Freddy has had a good length of time to look at all the possibilities and I am sure over the next couple of weeks he will narrow it down to just a few candidates.
