Walsall full-back Rhys Weston on trial with Motherwell
By John Barnes
Weston has been with Walsall since summer 2007
Motherwell manager Craig Brown has stepped up his bid to strengthen his squad for next season by giving a trial to former Wales defender Rhys Weston.
The 29-year-old Walsall full-back is training with the Fir Park club this week with a view to a possible move to the Scottish Premier League club.
"We invited Rhys to join us so we could have a look at him," said Brown.
"If players don't re-engage who are out of contract, we've got to ensure we've got cover and options."
Weston, who has made more than 100 appearances during his three years with the Saddlers, is out of contract with the English League One club at the end of the season.
He has seven caps for Wales, earned between 2000 and 2006.

The right-back position is one Motherwell are looking to fill having used natural midfielder Tom Hateley in that slot since the return to Charlton Athletic of on-loan Yassin Moutaouakil.
"He can play anywhere in defence," added Brown. "He looks a good pro and, while we're quite a young side, he provides a lot of experience."
Weston was born in Kingston-Upon-Thames in England and qualified for Wales through his father.
The right full-back began his career as a trainee with Arsenal, where he made three first-team appearances.
In November 2000, he joined Cardiff City for a fee of £300,000.
Weston joined Viking in the Norwegian Premier League in 2006, but his first match proved to be his last as he dislocated his shoulder after 12 minutes.
He returned to England and signed for Port Vale in February 2007 and, five months later, joined Walsall.
After an impressive first season, he signed a new two-year deal with the club in March 2008.
League One promotion hopefuls Leeds United were recently reported to be interested in the defender.
