Jutkiewicz mulls over Well future

Motherwell striker Lukas Jutkiewicz is relishing playing first-team football in Scotland but would not be drawn on how long he will remain at Fir Park.

The 20-year-old, who is on loan from Everton until the turn of the year, told BBC Scotland: "I have been wondering what the future holds.

"But it's probably still too early to decide on anything at the moment.

"I always wanted to come up here, play regularly and score some goals so I couldn't be happier on that front."

Despite a slow start, Jutkiewicz, who is eligible for England, the Republic of Ireland and Poland, has scored five goals in his last seven games and rifled the opener against Aberdeen on Saturday.

The Steelmen have had a solid opening quarter to a season that to many, including the club's fans, was one of transition following the summer departure of Mark McGhee and the arrival of Jim Gannon.

They are unbeaten in six, sit comfortably in fifth place in the SPL table and have higher ambitions than previously thought.

And Jutkiewicz thinks he knows why it has been such a positive start to a campaign.

"I think we've got a solid base and the players seem to know what's expected of them," said the man who cost Everton boss David Moyes £1m from Swindon Town.

"They know what their job is and obviously we've only been beaten once in the league this season.

"It's an important thing to keep in mind - the unbeaten mentality.

"For us, though, the ambition is to just win the next match."

Meanwhile, after refusing to speak to the BBC for a post-match interview, Well manager Gannon explained at a Fir Park media conference why he is unhappy with some aspects of the media.

"We understand the role the media play in creating confusion and misinformation," he told the assembled media, annoyed at their coverage of Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee's interest in Motherwell's Jim O'Brien.

"I think our kit-man made a valid point today. He said before he came into football he felt everything he read in the papers was true.

"Now that he's involved in football, he knows the truth and now everything he reads in the paper, he doesn't believe.

"The media have a part to play but they have to be respectful of the truth, report it as being the truth and then they'll get the respect."
