Wainwright earns Lillis plaudits

Morecambe assistant boss Mark Lillis believes midfielder Neil Wainwright has benefited from a loan-spell with Blue Square Premier side Barrow.

Wainwright, who turns 32 on Wednesday, made his second start of the season in Morecambe's 3-1 win over Lincoln City at the weekend.

"He's a model professional," Lillis told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"He proved that when you go out on loan you do it for a reason and he looks a great player now."

Saturday's win over Lincoln City ended a run of six games without victory.

As a footballer you want to come in and win but we've not had that for a good few weeks

Lillis believes the performance over Chris Sutton's side will spur them on in their remaining games.

"It's good that we got in the lead and we didn't draw or lose like we have done before," he said.

"It's amazing football isn't it? Suddenly the music's louder in the dressing room and captain Jim Bentley's dancing around with no clothes on. It's not a very nice sight but I'm not going to tell him that because he's a big lad.
