MK Dons defender Sean O'Hanlon has been ruled out until the new year following an operation on his injured knee.

The 26-year-old, who joined MK from Swindon in 2006, sustained the injury during the defeat by Walsall in April.

Assistant manager Karl Robinson told the club website: "He's a great lad and we wish he was fit. Sometimes you've got to play the hand you've been dealt.

"We now need to get in a player who can perform to the same level that Sean has for the last three years."

O'Hanlon has proved to be an important player for the Dons, making 138 appearances over three seasons and scoring 13 goals from centre-half.

He started his career at Everton before joining Swindon in 2004, initially on loan.
