Williams changed his allegiance from Wales to Australia last year
Rhys Williams is hoping his versatility will enhance his chances of breaking into the Middlesbrough first-team.
The Australia international, 21, who can play in either midfield or defence, has impressed in pre-season, scoring three times in three appearances.
"I'll continue to train hard, play well and keep scoring you never know what the gaffer is thinking," he said.
"He might put me in centre midfield, right-back, centre-back - as long as I play I'm not bothered."
The former Wales Under-21 international has had to overcome a succession of injuries as an academy player to force his way in Gareth Southgate's first-team squad.
