Mendieta missed the run-in last season after his injury in April |
Middlesbrough midfielder Gaizka Mendieta will miss the start of the new Premiership season, despite returning to light training. The former Spain international suffered a fractured metatarsal in April.
"It's great to see Mendi back and raring to go," boss Gareth Southgate told Middlesbrough's website.
"He had to sit out the Uefa Cup final, but he has come back from serious injury before and is determined to come back stronger than ever."
Mendieta is expected to be back in full training by the time Boro's new season begins with a trip to Reading on Saturday, 19 August.
