Duncan Russell hails Mansfield Town after FA Trophy win

Mansfield Town caretaker manager Duncan Russell paid tribute to his players for ignoring their off-pitch troubles to beat Worksop Town 5-0 in the FA Trophy.

The Stags are currently homeless having been locked out of Field Mill after a dispute with landlord Keith Haslam.

Russell told BBC Radio Nottingham: "Everything that could have gone against has gone against us. But the players have worked really hard.

"We let the chairman worry about what's going on behind the scenes."

Russell has been in caretaker charge for three games, including the 5-0 thumping of Nottinghamshire rivals Worksop at Ilkeston on Tuesday thanks to goals from Keigan Parker, Louis Briscoe, Rob Duffy, Simon Grand and Luke Medley.

Former Doncaster boss Dave Penney is the favourite to succeed David Holdsworth as Stags boss, but Russell has expressed his desire to take the role on a permanent basis.

Chairman John Radford is expected to name the club's new manager by Thursday

And Russell hopes he has done enough to be taken seriously.

"Two wins and a draw is not bad but it's a decision I cannot make - it's the chairman's decision," Russell said.
