Holdsworth has had to work with a reduced budget this season

Mansfield Town manager David Holdsworth says that his players are enjoying their football and is delighted with the start they have made to the season.

The Stags thumped Altrincham 4-0 on Saturday and are top of the Blue Square Premier Bet table with four wins and 13 points from their opening six games.

"The players have adapted very well and quickly," he told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"It's only a few weeks, but the spine looks solid and the players have a smile on their faces."

Mansfield are level on points with AFC Wimbledon and Crawley Town despite fears that a reduced playing budget would affect their chances of challenging for promotion this season.

Holdsworth added: "We are enjoying it. The players have a couple of days rest now and they have earned it."

The Stags are next in action on Saturday when they host Tamworth, who have only lost one of their first six league fixtures.
