Mansfield striker Jon Shaw hopes to prove his worth

Mansfield Town striker Jon Shaw is hoping to prove that he is worth a place in the Stags' starting 11.

After a spell out injured the 26-year-old opened his account for his new club in Tuesday's 3-1 defeat at Stevenage.

He told BBC Radio Nottingham: "To come into the side for players who are working hard and who deserve their place, you've got to show something.

"Hopefully I've done that and given the gaffer a lot to think about, and shown that I'm worth bringing to the club."

Since moving from Rochdale in January, Shaw had been restricted to just two substitute appearances prior to the defeat at Broadhall Way.

But he has now fully recovered from the hamstring injury that kept him out and marked his first start with a well struck goal.

He added: "It's always nice to see that your technique is there, because I've been out for a while with a little injury."
