Mansfield have appointed Peter Shirtliff as their manager on a permanent basis. Former assistant boss Shirtliff, 44, was initially appointed caretaker manager following Carlton Palmer's resignation in September.
Mansfield slipped to the foot of the table with only one win in five matches after Palmer's departure.
But successive wins over Barnet and Cheltenham have taken the Stags off the bottom and earned Shirtliff the job.
Stags chairman Keith Haslam handed the reins to Shirtliff after sifting through 50 other applications.
Shirtliff's 18-year playing career included two spells with Sheffield Wednesday, and he also played for Charlton, Wolves, Barnsley and Carlisle.
Haslam described himself as "very pleased" with the appointment.
The Stags' chairman said: "Peter has conducted himself in an excellent manner. I looked at all the applicants carefully but he came out on top.
"I've not been rushed into anything and it's a great appointment for the club."
Shirtliff said: "I'm pleased to be given the chance, there's now a confidence about the place."
