Michael Johnson has signed a new five-year deal at Manchester City that will keep him at Eastlands until 2013.
The 20-year-old England Under-21 international midfielder has ended months of speculation that he may be set to leave the club.
Johnson made his City debut in October 2006 after graduating through the club's youth academy.
He broke into the first team under former boss Stuart Pearce and also featured under Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Mark Hughes' squad will head to Cyprus for Thursday's Uefa Cup clash against Omonia Nicosia, hoping to have Johnson available.
The central midfielder had been an ever-present for the Blues until Saturday's defeat to Chelsea, when he was ruled out with a groin injury.
