Manchester City's Claudio Reyna is aiming to play a part in his side's Premiership run-in after a 45-minute appearance for the reserves on Monday. The 31-year-old, who has played just once since September because of a thigh problem, told his club's website: "It was a relief to be able to run out.
"It wasn't so much the performance, it was about getting some fitness work.
"I want to help as much as I can in the last 11 games and do my best to help us finish no lower than where we are now."
City are currently in 11th place in the Premiership and the return of Reyna will be a welcome boost.
However, the American admitted that although he "felt pretty good" after playing for the reserves, he still has to "clear the mental hurdle" after so long out of action.
