Morgan played for Northern Ireland at every level up to Under-21s

Macclesfield Town defender Paul Morgan has praised manager Gary Simpson for the start the club has made to League Two this season.

The 32-year-old was signed for the Silkmen initially on loan in July 2008 before making the move permanent.

He told BBC Radio Manchester: "I think considering we don't have a big budget Gary Simpson's done really well.

"He's bought in a lot of good young players but I think we're doing really terrific at the moment."

The Northern Irishman came through the ranks at Preston North End and has also had spells at Lincoln and Bury.

After being appointed club captain at the start of the season he missed the opening stages due to a broken wrist but has featured 13 times so far.

"I think the budget that Macclesfield have is the smallest in this league and we're in the top 10 and that's a tremendous effort - especially with the results we had last season too after the death of Keith Alexander so he's done a tremendous job.

"Everyone was talking about the Accy [Accrington Stanley] manager at the start of the season because they were doing well. I think we're above them now so it speaks for itself."
