Caretaker manager Gary Simpson has confirmed he wants the Macclesfield post on a permanent basis.
The Silkmen have won five of the eight games they have played since the death of former boss Keith Alexander.
Simpson told BBC Radio Manchester: "I want the job obviously but it has to be right for everybody.
"When Keith agreed his, I'd agreed mine as well - you know, the length of contract and what we were trying to do here so at the minute we're talking."
He added: "I had a big hand in bringing a lot of these players to this football club.
"Obviously, it was only me and the big man (Keith Alexander) anyway. So I was next in line to pick the baton up and carry it.
"To be fair, they've followed, they've worked extremely hard and I couldn't be more proud of them.
"Words cannot describe how hard it's been but we've just got to get on with it.
"Keith would've wanted this club to be safe. He would've been very proud of what they're doing and we just keep going."
