Macclesfield manager Keith Alexander has challenged midfielder John Rooney to make himself a permanent starter.
Rooney impressed as a substitute in the 2-1 victory against Torquay to earn a place in the starting side at Burton.
Alexander told BBC Radio Manchester: "The only way people can get into the team is to play well in the reserves or come on and do the business.
"I've been happy with John's performances but he's got to maintain that form."
He added: "He's a good player. The reason he hasn't been in the team is because the other lads have been doing well.
"He came on against Torquay and changed the game so he got himself in the team for the Burton draw."
