Mick Harford admits he simply tries to say what he thinks after matches

Luton Town manager Mick Harford 'regrets' the comments he made to referee Trevor Kettle after the 3-3 draw with Bradford on 24 January.

"I regret doing that but it all stems through frustration," he told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"I am just honest and straightforward, and I try and be truthful in what my reaction is to football matches."

Both Harford and Bradford City manager Stuart McCall have been charged by the FA for improper conduct.

"Maybe I'm a little bit forthright in what I said to him but I'll have to take it on the chin," said Harford. "Obviously we will be penalised by the FA and we'll have to take it from there."

Luton appeared to have grabbed a vital victory with a 90th minute goal from Asa Hall.

But referee Trevor Kettle then awarded Bradford a controversial penalty, from which Barry Conlon netted.

Luton's Chris Martin was sent off in the argument that ensued.

And, although contrite, Harford hopes that the circumstances of such a fraught finish may be considered some sort of defence in a plea for leniency.

"I think these things should be taken into consideration," he said. "In terms of what happened and how it transpired and how the game had unfolded over 90 minutes.

"It was quite a volatile atmosphere from start to finish, with Stuart unfairly in my opinion getting sent to the stands, and obviously what went on later in the game. "

Luton face a further charge of failing to control their players.

All parties have until 13 February to respond to the charges.
