Luton midfielder Ahmet Brkovic has put his impressive goalscoring form in the past year down to manager Mike Newell. The 30-year-old bagged 16 goals last season as the Hatters were League One champions, and has netted twice in their first three Championship games.
"The whole team has improved under him, I've been pushed forward more and given more freedom," Brkovic told BBC Sport.
"Mike Newell told me to believe in my abilities, to keep working on my finishing, and it's paid off for me."
Newell's men earned rave reviews last term for their attractive style of play, which brought them 87 goals in 46 league games.
They have taken that form into the Championship, which they are leading after collecting seven points from three matches.
Brkovic says he and the Hatters have shown their passing game can survive the rigours of English football.
"We know it's only the beginning but it's been brilliant. The lads have worked hard and proved we can compete and play at this level," the former Leyton Orient winger explained.
"Last year was more physical in my opinion but I've become used to it because I've been training hard and working in the gym to adapt.

"Last year we were always under pressure but in this division you get more time on the ball, and we have players that can pass the ball well - it suits us.
"In the first three games we've passed the ball around and created chances. It's going well for the team and me."
Apart from the Croatian, the other Hatter to attract attention this season has been centre-back Curtis Davies.
The 20-year-old was named player of the year last term by League One supporters and continues to draw a host of scouts to Kenilworth Road.
Brkovic says Davies should ignore speculation linking him with a move to the Premiership.
"He's been magnificent in the first three games and because he's young people have been noticing him," he added.
"My advice to him is to keep working hard and see what happens. He's done ever so well for the club so I'm not surprised others have taken notice."
