Jamie Carragher hopes to raise 1m through testimonial
Carragher has spent his entire career at Liverpool
Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher is optimistic his forthcoming testimonial could raise close to £1m for good causes on Merseyside.
A Liverpool XI will take on an Everton XI on 4 September, with all proceeds being donated to charity through Carragher's 23 Foundation.
"The main aim is to raise close to £1m, through the game and the gala dinner," he told BBC Radio Merseyside.
"Hopefully (we can) top that up until I finish playing."
Carragher supported the Toffees as a boy before joining Liverpool's youth set-up.
And the 32-year-old England international says even though the game is just a friendly he is still desperate to win it.
"Liverpool have never won one (a friendly derby), I think there's been three or four so hopefully we can change that," he said.
"I'm being serious, I'd like to win the game, it's a game of football at the end of the day and in Liverpool both Everton and Liverpool are very passionate about football.
"When you're playing on the street with your mates you want to win and this is a game at Anfield in front of a lot of people so I'm sure they'll want to win and we'll want to win."
Matches between Liverpool and Everton were historically known as the 'friendly derby' and Carragher is hoping that spirit will return for his testimonial.
"I would like the fans if they're buying tickets from across the park (Everton fans) to buy them in different parts of the stadium," he said.
"I was a Blue as a kid and I remember going on the Kop in certain Derby games."
