Clare has played for 12 clubs during his career

Manager Steve Tilson has said Lincoln City are unlikely to sign striker Daryl Clare from their Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Cambridge United.

Clare, 32, has a year left on his contract but has been transfer-listed as the U's look to cut their wage bill.

He spent a week training with the Imps as Tilson assessed a possible move.

Tilson told BBC Lincolnshire: "We've got four centre-forwards so to bring in another one when I need to fill other positions is unlikely at the moment."

Clare, who has played for 12 different clubs in his career, joined Cambridge from Gateshead for £10,000 in July 2010 but spent the latter stages of last season on loan at Blue Square Bet North champions Alfreton.
