Roberts is in his eighth season as Lincoln City chief executive

Lincoln City chief executive Dave Roberts has announced that he is to stand down from his position.

Roberts, who has held the post since 2003, made the announcement at thursday's annual general meeting.

He told BBC Lincolnshire: "I'm driven by challenges and I feel I've achieved all the challenges I set myself here.

"It was a difficult decision because it's a job I enjoy and a great club to be at but like everything there's a time when you have to move on."

Roberts added: "The board have been very supportive and we have a great working relationship but I feel that I've been here for eight years and It's time to move on and look for that fresh challenge."

Chairman Bob Dorrian said: "Dave's been a fantastic servant to the football club.

"He's run the club fiscally in an extremely good way, he's worked extremely hard and I have nothing but praise for what he's done for Lincoln City."

Roberts is expected to stay on in the role until a successor is appointed.

Dorrian said: "We're expecting numerous applications because it's one of those jobs that a lot of people would fancy.

"We would like to have a decision on the new chief executive made by the end of January, and that person in position by the end of March."
