Lincoln City are understood to be investigating alleged comments made by on-loan Celtic striker Ben Hutchinson towards home fans on Tuesday night.
Several fans claim the forward directed abuse at them during the 2-0 defeat by Northampton Town at Sincil Bank.
Imps manager Steve Tilson said that he was not aware of the allegations.
But he told BBC Lincolnshire: "As much as you might be getting stick, rightly or wrongly, you have to bite the bullet and behave in the right manner."
Tilson added: "When you're on the pitch, you're an icon to a lot of people.

"It is difficult at times but you have to bite your tongue and be on your best behaviour."
Hutchinson has scored three goals in 14 appearances since being signed by previous Imps boss Chris Sutton on a season-long loan from Celtic.
Nottingham-born Hutchinson was signed from Middlesbrough by then Celtic boss Gordon Strachan in January 2008.
The 22-year-old has since spent two spells out on loan with Swindon Town and Dundee.
